Summer almost gone - hate to see it go

I finally got the lift chair for Larry. I debated over and over. I looked around taking Larry to three places. I looked at furniture stores for basic arm chairs and didn't find anything he could manage. I finally bit the dust and bought one that he liked. It came Friday and it fits in the family room without taking up too much room. The only thing is the remote is on the wrong side and I didn't notice it until afterwards. They are coming tomorrow to change it as I tried and couldn't do it. The cats marvel at a chair that moves itself. lol

Our computer crashed just at the same time StrokeNet was down. I was able to use the laptop but don't like it as much. This one works so much better. I even had to go out and buy a new monitor which I know nothing about but this one works great, and its wasn't that expensive.

Larry's son and his wife and daughter moved across the river about 25 miles from here. We went for dinner there today and enjoyed seeing them and their nice new home. They lost their home a few years ago due to financial problems and now have finally turned the corner to buy another one. I hope they have learned their lessen in financial responsiblity, as they tend to spend money they don't have. They just moved in 2 weeks ago and the home is nice with a couple of new pieces of furniture. Now they want to get another dog and they already have 2 cats and a rabbit. I wish they would wait, but I keep my mouth shut. They have to learn themselves. I made a wrong turn coming back and ended up going the longer way home. I am directionally challenged in strange areas and Larry had to help me. We made it home before another downpour.

Larry has his appointment this week for his 6 month carotid dopplar test. I hope everything has remained the same.

Julie: I hope Larry does so learn to love his new chair. But I will tell you the little kitties will love it sooner - LOL. Kira sits in the seat (Kitty Kam) when she is alone with Bruce. On the top when the caregivers or I are home - Kitty Kam off - LOL. It is so good to get the pressure off his bum, the remote allows him to relocate the pressure areas. Setting to read by, watch TV by. It will take a lot of the pressure off as far as skin issues and safety.

Bruce and I both love the fall season. We had a few stops this weekend and went to the "seasonal" displays. The plastic stuff is beautiful and fun, but we can't wait for our local nurseries to set up their displays. The Farm Markets close this weekend - Labor Day. But within a week, the fall displays will be up. I will miss the local, fresh fruits and veggies but just love the fall displays - all the color.

We bought cemetary plots the year before Bruce's stroke -someone was looking over us - we have fire bushes at our site and they have just started to change. I do not look forward to winter anymore - too much on me, but I do love the fall. Cool days, wonderful nights.

Please do let us know about his Vascular follow up. Bruce's comes up next month. Our biggest worry now. Good week and do take care. Debbie

Julie,

I am glad to hear that you got the chair. Let me know how Larry likes it. I have an electric recliner for William. it does not lift him up. Yes, I did notice that the button was on the right side for William.

Let us know how the cardiologist visit goes. Wm has one this Thurs. The caretaker will have to take him.

Hopefully see you tonight.

Ruth, Larry's appt. was with the vascular surgeon for his carotid scan. He said Larry looked good and his X-Ray on the right carotid artery showed no change. That means all is well for now and no surgery. Larry was thrilled. We are to keep watch and repeat the scan in 6 months.

Julie, I have also been considerig a lift chair for Bob, one that goes all the way back, flat. Of course,, the problem is small rooms and a chair would have to virtually sit in the middle of the small room to get the wall clearance! Doh! I will say that getting up is his big problem due to pain. It would be the most luxury for him, it would be no question if it was a sure fit. As is, I am thinking of bringing a wing chair from another room and us having a go at it. It sits much higher than the couch set in the tv room, and that is always a plus in rising up.

Which brand and model did you buy?

Sandy, the lift chair brand is Pride and it is the medium sized one. If Larry had not lost so much weight, I might have gotten the bigger one, but this fits him fine. It does go all the way back. He is still getting use to it as he will not always raise it to the standing position as he feels he will fall. The cats like riding on the back of it. lol
