"Old Home Week" in the grocery store

My Aunt called this morning saying she was going to the store and would pick me up. That was good because I was running low on a few things. Once at the store the first person I saw was my high school music teacher. Aside from school we worked together a few times at weddings as she played the piano and I sang so we were kind of "close". Today was a wobbly day and she looked at my cane and limp and asked what had I done to myself this time. I had a habit of being a bit accident prone and she looked surprised but commented "but you've still got that big smile--but that's how you always were!"

A couple isles over a ran into (almost literally) a lady I worked with when I was in my 20's. She was a really nice lady but looked mean so people shied away from her but that was when I was more confident and didn't shy away from nothing! We became "work buddies". She noticed something wasn't right but she didn't ask and I didn't tell. Instead we talked about our grand children, her husband (who was our supervisor) who had passed and giggled about a few stories from way back.

All in all there were about 5 people in the store I hadn't seen in nearly 30 yrs. Who knew Food Lion was having a class reunion in Isle 3!? It was nice seeing them again.

I find that reunions do take place in Aisle 3, as people who have moved to the city come home to the coast for holidays and high days. It is good to catch up and then of course back they go again. I am still fielding the "How is Ray, how is Mum?" remarks but surely people will know soon that they are gone?

I hope you are making some sense of your life now, it is tough for you I know, so much has changed. Keep brave.

I just want to ask you after all those years gone by "Did some of them look the same as when you saw them the last time????? I'm just thinking how much they probably have changed in their looks to you!!!

Seems like the friends I had before the stroke all disappeared but I have seen a few of them in stores or at Walmart and they had changed in Looks for sure!! In fact they asked me if I still remember them and each time I had to say NO!!!

a few gray hairs, some wrinkles and a little fatter but mostly the same. I forget names faster than faces, Fred.
