That you were once unkind befriends me now,

And for that sorrow, which I then did feel,

Needs must I under my transgression bow,

Unless my nerves were brass or hammered steel.

For if you were by my unkindness shaken

As I by yours, oumusthave passed a hell of time,

And I, a tyrant, have no leisure taken

To weigh how once I suffered in your crime.

O, that our night of woe might have remembered

My deepest sense how hard true sorrow hits,

And soon to you, as you to me then, tendered

The humble salve which wounded bosoms fits!

But that your trespass now becomes a fee;

Mine ransoms yours, and yours must ransom me.

OK, Who's this by and what is the name of it? Anyone? Mom?

Yup, William Shakespeare, Sonnet 120.

I still can't believe that people read Shakespeare by choice! But I suppose it's good for brain exercises, which is why they give it to you in school.

Also widens your vocabulary and language skills.

I never got past the sentence:"But me no buts and and me no ands."

It's fascinating stuff isn't it?

Thanks for all the help. Well, I can say Shakespeare isn't my first choice to read. I see him as a windbag much of the time, but some things he writes are good. That is as far as I'll go to be nice to Shakespeare.

Pam

PS. I think Percy Shelly has him beat hands down!

"The question is: is it better to be alive or dead? Is it nobler to put up with all the nasty things that luck throws your way, or to fight against all those troubles by simply putting an end to them once and for all? Dying, sleeping
