Quite an adventure

Yesterday, I was traveling to visit my dad...he lives 30 miles away. All of a sudden I hear a thwunk, thwunk, thwunk....so I stop the car on the side of the road, get out of the car and discover the back left tire is toast. It had shredded and only the wheel rim was left with a tiny amount of rubber going around the rim. Thank God it was the back tire and not the front tire which would have thrown me around. Another praise God is that I had a cell phone with me. So, I called hubby who called AAA and they sent someone to change my tire for me and put the toy tire on. While waing for AAA to come, there were 2 'good samaritans' who stopped to offer their help and change my tire for me... WOW, not very common this day and age, but then, this is Iowa where the best people live.

After changing the tire, talked with hubby again and decided to move the front tires to the back and buy two new tires for the front. Just so happens the station that came to change my tire had the Cooper tires to match.

Come time to pay for the tires, I present my credit card and their validation process is antiquated so it didn't clear...possibly an error in entering the numbers, because the card is good, hubby called the bank to find out why it was refused.

I didn't have the checkbook and only had $100 cash on me, so they trusted me to go to the bank to get the remaining cash to pay the balance of what I owed..$60.

Meanwhile, my dad whom I was going to visit didn't know why I wasn't to his house yet, he didn't have his phone connected back yet. So, when I finished the tire process I went to his house and told him the story, then took him to the McDonalds for a supper, I was hungry and figured he was, too. He'd had a nice lunch...meals on wheels.

Anyway, it took 5 hours to get to my dad's house when ususally it takes 40 minutes.

I'm very appreciative that I'm allowed to drive. It was a pain in the @ss when I wasn't the first 2 years after my stroke.

Janice so glad everything worked out so well for you....no accident or injury. My husband and daughter insisted I get a cell phone. I take it with me outside as we live on 5 rural acres and I sometimes grumble about another bill I am thankful to have it.

Janice,

That's really great that out of the bad came a lot of positives that can make us all feel good about our fellow man. Glad you didn't get hurt with the tire blew!!!!!
