Baying Beagles

Well I'm completely sick of the things my therapists give me to "improve" my cognitive ability. I've done all the word searches and the like that I can stomach. I decided to come up with a fun way to exercise my brain.

Yesterday was opening day for Major League Baseball. I signed up to run a fantasy baseball team at ESPN.com. My first thought was that with all the stats and games in baseball it would really give me a mental workout. I was right about that. In fact I think I may have bit off more than I can chew. Oh well my wife has encouraged me to just keep playing. I'm in a 10 team league and my goal is not to win the league it is to just have fun and try to beat my score from the previous week.

Oh yeah my team is called the Blake Street Baying Beagles.

Good for you, I bet this will really work on your cognitive deficits. I too had to find an alternative to word searches, and crosswords. I had too much of that, and my brain went on strike. Thought organization was a biggie for me, now I work on it by baking lots of cookies. If they don't turn out good I must of missed a step.

I do not know much about fantasy sports leagues, but had my BIL call me panicky one day to draft players for him. Lots of brain work there, and deadlines to meet.

This "Project" really turned out to be more than I thought it would be. I used to be a senior consultant at a software engineering firm and I think that was easier than Fantasy Baseball so far. Now days the internet provides information overload. That's why I figure I'm just trying to out perform myself as the season goes on. Maybe everytime I loose ground I'll bake some cookies and eat them. Thanks for the post Amy.

At times I think we can think up better things than the therapists because we know our personal "kicks".

I was SO sick and tired of them making me play hop scotch(bad leg and balance) so I whined and then they told me to think of something. Talk about biting off more than you can choose. I used to landscape arch. garden designs so I basically templated the therapy room and all the equipment and then moved it around to make room for the new therapy table. That kept me busy for a bit! Becareful what you wish for! Now I'm doing my kids old math books for challenge. These kids now are too ahead of me! Good luck with this and remember you eat an elephant one bite at a time! jan
