Long time, no post

I find myself posting less and less, but I have enjoyed reading all the new blogs that have appeared. Many of them remind me of how I felt at that point in Lisa's recovery. Some good, some bad.

Enough about me, on to Lisa.

She had a slew of Dr. appointments this week, her six month check-up. As some of you know, Lisa also has Lupus (which we found out may have caused her to have her stroke). Lupus Dr. said everything looks good and her blood work numbers are the best they have been in a while. She loves her Lupus dr.

Then, it was off to Neurology and an MRI. Her MRI looked great. No sign of any new stroke and the "old" stroke looked a bit dimmer on the MRI. Her Neurologist is very happy with the amount of movement Lisa has regained. Then, she surprised us. She placed orders to put Lisa back into professional P.T. Lisa was dropped a few months ago because she had plateaued. Took us totally by surprise. It will be a more aggressive therapy. 3 weeks, 3 hours, twice a day. Like boot camp I told her. Lisa is very excited but also nervous if she can handle that much.

Only one dark cloud, Lisa asked her Neurologist when she would be walking normal again. Ouch!! I thought I had explained her situation to her clearly. I guess not. The neurologist answer was your typical stroke answer, "I don't know."

I think Lisa thought it was something like a cold that would just go away and everything would be fine. She was upset, I think for finally realizing what we were facing. The realization that she could be using a wheelchair in some compacity for the rest of her life. I say we because I am by her side.

We got home and I calmed her down. She asked for me and the kids to talk to her. Lisa wanted to know how long we had known that she would be in a wheelchair. The 3 of us said, "For a while now." And, actually, that cheered her up even more. Knowing that her family was there for her.

So, Lisa has a new-found appreciation for her therapy at home. Even if she doesn't feel like doing it, she's doing it. Let's hope she sticks with it.

Hey Butch,

Glad to hear from you again! That is good news from the doctors, always a relief to get the "all's well" speech.

Kind of scary when our love ones ask the doctors questions that we know will be difficult for them to hear the answer. I am always worried the doctor will say something in an effort to "be honest", but might break Patrick's spirit. I am glad Lisa seems to be dealing with the possibility of being in a wheel chair fairly well.

Take care, and keep posting!

Kristen

You mention you fly off the handle, that's expected due to stress, but talk with your doctor for a mild med that will allow you to function, but will not allow you to fly off the handle
