swimming

Since my stroke I have not tried swimming b/c I was too terrified I couldn't do it. WEll I tried it and still could.(My hubby said I swam better than I walked) <_< .

I don't know for how long I would be able to do it, but range of motion with my affected arm could move freely (easier in the water than on land.)

Amy,

You might want to consider looking for a class which does water exercise. Most Y's and similar organizations have classes which they organize for people with arthritis.

The exercises are a great way to increase your muscle strength. They exercise in ways swimming doesn't. I agree, it is easily to move in water than on dry land. The water provides support.

I've been doing water classes at the Y this summer and there are people in them with disabilities, especially the arthritis water class. They all give you a good work out. I do water aerobics, arthritis water exercise class and water fitness, three classes on different days. I go early so I can do some lap swimming and I'm now up to swimming 5 laps in the pool and I have been swimming for 34 years.

Also military posts and VA if eligible, all have pools. We don't have a Y yet in our little town. One is suppose to be built soon.
