urge to tidy up!

At the moment I'm in the mood to do things. I trundled round the kitchen yesterday in my wheelchair, clearing the kid's dirty things. May be annoying to other people but I find it most satisfying and have only dropped 1 dish since December off my lap. Went into town yesterday and got a case so when I got home I organised my cosmetics. Plucking using my left hand it occurred to me that though it is dextrous (I can move individual hairs if I ever need to) it does feel awkward for certain things. Next we set up that craft box. I resolved to try dressmaking 1 handed, I did dabble prestroke and reckon much I can do 1 handed. First project starts later! Get ready for the air in Surrey to turn blue, scissors are made for right not left hands. I just need to remember where I put my patterns!

Diane,

Search the net for left-handed scissors. I've been left-handed since birth and I know what you mean about trying to use right-handed scissors with your left hand. A good pair of CORRECT scissors is worth its weight in gold. They make a lot of things for lefties.

hey Diane:

I m really inspired by your will to do things even when you are wheelchair bound and use of 1 hand only. I don't think I would have been able to handle that well if I was in that situation.

Due to my strke I have also lost use of my left hand but I m rightie so things r okay.

My stroke was in the carotid artery, theres one either side and are main arteries to the brain. Now I know that I feel so lucky to still be here! One side you tend to get mind problems but lose use of left arm, the other it's the right you lose and talking you lose but all thought processes are unharmed. If I had a choice, this way I have it is best, at least I can think clearly and have full memories. My case is of course the latter.

Thanks for your thoughts but anyone faced with my position just gets on with it! Life becomes more precious after such a close shave.

Thanks for the advice, I treated myself to left hand scissors. Silly thing with normal ones is I don't talk enough to swear so think it!

I used to be left-handed before my stroke so much as to be named lefty - but to simplify problems, I bought scissors and a pitcher for lefyies -

Don't give up your search as they are out there, just not as obvious since its more profitable to sell things for right-handed people

GOOD LUCK

LEFTY JUNE :cheer:

Way to Go Diane. My husband is left handed.. he can use his right for certain things...but I know certain knives don't cut properly. There are quite a few items for lefties.

Glad you got your craft box going.
