hi from over here...how great to see some comments so far...hello bonnie, asha, autumn!...i feel so far away from everyone...and i am!!!!...lol

i want to blog about the acupuncture a bit as this is the single most important modality i'm receiving for my stroke recovery altho all the treatments definately work together synergistically to manifest healing...we all receive acupuncture 11 times per week...twice/day during the week plus a saturday morning session...as this is a teaching hospital a squad of doctors and interns among others enter each patient's room for the morning session...prof. han is the top banana around here and he is usually the one who needles my arm/hand/shoulder/head...upon meeting him his first question to me was 'what is your biggest concern that you would like help with??'...it didn't take me long to respond that i wanted to use my arm and hand again...the other doctors needle my foot and leg concurrently...this session can often be painful or uncomfortable depending upon exactly what is needled...and sometimes it's absolutely fine...but seeing my arm start to improve makes any unpleasantness rather inconsequential!!!!...the drill here is definately not for the faint of heart...but i know that i've got a good shot at not being disabled for the rest of my life so i won't be complaining much about it!...the morning session is always done lying in my bed...thusfar the afternoon session has always been done in a chair...the occipital area of the back of my head/neck is needled along with my shoulder/arm/hand...this session can be painful if a certain spot is hit in the occipital area but it's no sweat compared to the morning session...it doesn't take long to get the needles in...dr han will almost always spin them or ask me to lift my arm...afterwards the needles are left in for 20 mins...one of the nurses will come in like clockwork to take them out...i think the combination of skill and frequency with this particular modality will produce prodigous results...there's no place i'd rather be...i'll cover each treatment and blog as frequently as possible...best to all...richxxx

Hi Rich - this is just awesome to read your messages - my husband had a stroke in Sept 2005 and we are coming over there in April with Ruth so it's pretty exciting to read about your experiences and to add hope to our expectations. Thanks so much for your blog - look forward to sharing your experience. cjg

Rich

I am wondering about surviors with aphasia, can the treatment help in the healing? Are any of the surviors on your floor affected by global aphasia? We keep hoping for more return for my husband. Any thoughts???

ann...there are of course people here with aphasia as it is common with many stroke survivors...one says that his ability to speak has improved as well as his ability to read and comprehend printed words...

hi cjg...the thing that amazes me most is that the doctors here accept people several years post stroke expecting to help them!...hope is definately in the equation over here...that ignorant statement that we all have 6 months or so to get back our lost function is categorically incorrect and untrue...it's inspiring to see returns on people here with varying amounts of post stroke time!

ruth is back in the states...you're welcome to email me...i can answer privately if you'd like...

hi bonnie...again, great to hear from you...the alternative to my not exploring didn't look too appealing to me!...i shall blog about my experience here as well as report about the other people who are here looking for the same thing...we are just about at 5 weeks now...we'll all need a lot more time/treatment before any definitive conclusions can be reached and reported...i'm committed to sharing with my peers here...:)
