A blast from the past

WOW! It's amazing what you find when you start packing to move. I have a bad habit of being a pack rat, and I've decided to start a throwing away party this move.

I found an old journal I kept when I was 15-17 years of age. Most of it is "what the heck was I thinking?". This one caught my eye though. It's a song that I wrote the lyrics for and a friend of mine put to guitar. I wish I could remember his name now, but it escapes me.

I am Me (You are You)

Lyrics by: Michael T. Crowe (age 16)

Music by: unknown

Music: 4/4 soul, slowly

Dm7|Am7|Am7|Gm7|A7|A7sus|Dm7

Verse I.

Lift your eyes up to the sky.

Place your hands deep into the sea.

One day your time will come to die,

and your memories will cease to be.

[chorus]

***First two lines are sung with a slow guitar bridge

Who is your god?

What is his sign?

It is up to you to choose.

For I am me, and you are you.

Verse II.

Live the day, and live the time.

Cherish his strength, and never release her love.

Walk with me with your hand in mine.

Let the earth remain below and the sky above.

[chorus]

Verse III.

Is a person's love real or an illusion?

Has love turned into a simple word to just be said?

Open your heart and let Satan have intrusion?

Wake up one morning and find a stranger in bed?

[chorus]

Verse IV.

War is of the strong, and peace of the weak.

Destroy your world and alone you shall cry.

Looking high and low for an illusion you seak.

Your life is your's, for alone you live and alone you die.

[chorus]

Michael,

Thanks for sharing. I'm impressed with the wisdom you wrote about at 16. I'll admit, I wouldn't publish anything I wrote at that age, it all goes under the heading"Pillow biter"!
