Communicating Love

RLT

My husband has aphasia. He used to talk all the time and tell me tales of his past and the history of our home town. He never seemed to meet a stranger but always found new friends to talk to. I loved his voice. There are times that I ache to hear that voice again. Not only have his words been lost but also the tone quality of his speech is gone. Due to a series of strokes and vascular dementia his ability to communicate continues to decline.

But he can sing.

The other day a song came on a movie he was watching. He called to me and sang that song to me. A love song.

I cried.

It was beautiful!!!

Ruth, it is time for love. Spring is almost in the air. You can plan a good year ahead. Someone told me that the even years are always the good years.

Nice to see you back blogging again.

Thanks Sue,

The irony is that I have been blogging and wondering if anyone ever read them. They haven't been reading my blogs because I have been "posting" drafts!!! The laugh is on me.

Ruth,

How sweet and touching. Yes, love is in the air and spring will definitely follow suit. I have heard that using singing as therapy for aphasics is effective. Your hubby proves that and just think of the crooning you can be the recipient of :harp: :violin:

RLT,

I feel like I could have written this blog and thus so, I know exactly how you feel about the lose of communication. Our guys' personalities were so wrapped up in the way they interacted with strangers and friends alike and with storytelling. I'm glad they both can get out a song. The songs can be so powerful, can't they.
