I tried to schedule an appointment today and they told me the first they'd have available would be Oct 21. They then talked to the doctor's nurse and she was able to 'get me in' Oct 2.

All this leads me to question: Is there a shortage of doctors?

10 to 1 odds that if you called back and said you had the flu etc. they would see you tomorrow. Not a suggestion, just saying!!!

There is possibly a shortage of "good" doctors in certain areas. You could also request they contact you if they have a cancellation - if you're able to get there in a short period of time that is.
