theme chats

Yesterday I had my 4th theme chat. I'm getting more people which is encouraging. I think it is going well. So far the themes are interesting ones. The chats are not really what I thought they would be. I thought one person at a time would give an opinion , an anecdote or a question but it seems everyone types at the same time and you can usually detect at least 3 conversations going at the same time which can get pretty confusing. I would love to hear comments from other hosts who have hosted theme chats, Is this the way to do it or is there a better way? So far the themes , I know, everyone could have had something to say but not everyone has had the chance to. I would love to hear from you. I'm sure there must be a better way to do this. Thankyou,

I'm not a host but have been in the chat rooms for 5 years, that's the way it goes. I don't think there could be any other way than everyone typing at once and their minds thinking what is being said.

Trying to read what others type was my problem keeping up. I read slow and type even slower. By the time I answer a question I have 5 more. So I had to stop going.

There could be another way the host's can tell you. I went in to have fun nothing serious and you could go into another chat with a person on the screen at that time, don't know how it works these days.

I tried to get in Sunday and could not so I guess chat is not for me. I just send the person a PM or email and we chat that way.

On the other hand it's good to chat and see what the other members are doing where they live. Sitting in the comfort of your home talking to members is a good thing or it was for me. But by the time I said hello to all who welcomed me to chat I was lost.

I know what you mean Fred. At the beginning I was a bit overwhelmed with chats but it gets easier the more you do it. Thanks for your response. Since we have a new chat room, are you trying to access chatroom with old paths. try stroke support/chat room, you will then be in lobby, choose romm you want from icon on top right marked rooms, once you are in the room you want, you need to close lobby tab at the top left. Then you chat away. Hope to see you in chat soon,

MC,

Sunday's chat was well attended. As we are not sitting physically in the room together and we cannot see when someone is typing, it is difficult. What is important though is that the atmosphere is supportive and encouraging to all those in attendance.

From my expereince in chat it is not what is said that is important but what is FELT by those participating. I have never done theme chats as such but can often see a pattern in what is said.

Sometimes when I have a lot of survivors in the room and a caregiver comes in with a question I am amazed by the support shown to him/her. We are all survivors in some way and all caregivers in some way so we all have a part of the answer to any question.

It is posting in the forums where you get the "real" answers though as people have time to sit down and consider the questions and give a deeper answer. For me chat is just for fun, fellowship and to get a feeling of community.

Marie,

I think Sue said it best which is what I stated earlier in my comment that chats for me was to run my mouth, have fun and give accounts of my daily activities where I live and current events taking place in my town.

Nothing was ever too serious and if it was those people got together in another chat room and talked about it otherwise we just meet, greet and have a good time for an hour or so. Now with your theme chats I suppose that subject is all that's talked about.

But when I went to chats everybody was asking different questions of me and each other so the screen was always moving up and it was hard for me to keep up. At that time it would be 15 of us in there from England to Hawaii.

I located a list of of abbreviations like BTW, LOL and so forth from a web site that we used most of the time, that made typing and talking a bit faster. I imagine people who text msg has a list too. Good luck with the chats I may try to enter again soon, no promise.

I was thinking about your question & I felt the way it could benefit theme chat is by people posting their views & then there is comment time based on host for that view point & then v move from there. that's my 2 cents worth I guess you need to try & see what will work

hi mc,

i enjoy your themed chats....i have missed a few but i still think they are a super idea. it is hard with this new chat board cause we can't see who is typing. i don't think it would ever be possible to keep chatees focused totally on the theme. one thing leads to another and we can go back and forth between what comes up and the chat's theme. the most important thing for me at chat is to catch up with my cyber friends and find out what is going on. you are doing a great job...kathy

Thank you for your reply. I am glad that you think the theme chats are a good idea. What was worrying me mostly is that I haven't

had a chat yet where the theme was really discussed. At the most, the chatters give an idea or opinion then we pass right away to socializing. Not that I have anything against socializing, I just wasn

Asha, Thank you for your reply but I don't understand your suggestion. I am interested to know more about it. Thanks
