Trip to Bluebonnet Festival

Yesterday really set in stone that Hans just does not do crowds well anymore. I wanted so bad to go to our Annual Bluebonnet Festival here in town. Being a small town and designated as the Bluebonnet Capital, it a big thing - closed off streets and all the hoopla. People do come from all over on big buses and vans to see all the pretty Bluebonnets that grow around here. There are booths set up on two blocks of Main Street and lots of neat things to see (and buy). I got Hans all dressed up and looking marvelous, loaded in the van and went to town on Saturday - just like to farmers of old. Even took our own water. biggrin.gif When we got there a parked in my friends parking lot right in the middle of things, he balked and did not want out of the van. I begged and talked, put the ramp down but he didn't want to go out. It was warm and I did not feel right leaving him in the van. About that time, Marvin came out and began talking to him. He did go down the ramp to shake hands with Marvin. While he was out, I put the ramp back up and he had to go with me then. We visited with Marvin a while and then started toward the booths, he froze. I had to coax him on each step of the way. We finally made it the half block down the street and I began looking at the booths, seeing which ones I wanted to visit. He was really antsy and at one point ran into a trailor hitch that was sticking out and hurt his chin pretty bad. I saw my daughter and son-in-law at the end of the block and suggested that we go see Wes and Phyllis. He was okay with that but it meant going through a place that they had set up tables and chairs for people to listen to the band that was playing and eat the Klobase sandwiches and other Czech delicacies that were being sole at one of the booths. We saw our granddaughter and Great grandson working at that booth. When we got to Wes and Phyllis, they hugged him and he seemed better but as we started back down the other side of the street, he headed straight back to the corner and where the van was parked. I gave up at that point and decided if he was that uncomfortable, we would come home. When we pulled into our driveway, he reached over and patted my arm. He was glad to be out of the crowd and back in his own little world. I guess that pretty much settles it, things where crowds are involved are out for us - at least for now sad.gif

Well, Kara, his aide, will be here in a little while and I can go back by myself and see everything that I want to. I just had to try it with him with me and I so miss us going places together. He looked so handsome and I am proud to be seen with him even though he is in a wheelchair and has the one side that doesn't work. Lots of people that know him were so glad to see him out and hugged him. He liked that but could not seem to handle all the ones he didn't know. The Administrator of the Nursing Home we were in and her family were there and we enjoyed visiting with them. He was glad to see them and their children.

OK, Kara is here so I better get dressed and go on my spree.

Sounds like your BlueBonnet Festival is a fun event for you town.... Did your husband enjoy going out in new situations before his stroke?
