Hello all,

Been off for 5 days, did not see grandma, mom, noone...it was just me and my mates for the last 5 days. We've been to our summer house where grandma had her stroke on 08.02.2014, the house was kind of abandoned, left on its own...We've brought life into the house, daylight, then had tea, cookies with a mate, slept there for 2 nights in a row, used the house and I did mention grandma's name whilst we were in the house...took some photos of the house to show her how nice it looks, the flowers she planted and cared for with my mom...

Was with grandma today for 5 mins...she was sleeping, so when she woke up her eyes could not concentrate...she couldn't decide if she wanted to go to sleep or not...she did not say anything, I held her hand for 5 mins and told her to go back to sleep...off I went, in my car, back to my house...was feeling sad, but could not cry...just couldn't cry...her eyes were not looking in the same direction, it was as if she was confused, her right eye was looking straight up, and her left was trying to focus on my face, I guess she was trying to find out who I was...anyway...I was demoralised until Dr.Nogay a relative called. He said he's been to grandma after 15 days, and that she was awake...she was bright and awake, 3-4 hours after I stopped by, he said "huge difference Cagin, she has made real good progress compared to last time I saw her, you can't tell the difference since you can see her everyday nearly...calm down...she will be better"

Paperwork and beauraucracy here in Turkey is bullshit, we need to send the reports and the prescriptions to the government for a refund of %70 of what has been spent on grandma's medication and needs, airbed, diapers, food, etc...I know I should be thankful for that refund, but to run after mds and professors for a signature and take copies, and have them confirm it via their own stamps, diploma numbers...it's challenging...Thanks that Cem was there to help me, a friend who lives in Darmstadt,Germany, who was here in Izmir,Turkey for summer hols. Bless him.

Mom will be taking over the watch from the nurse tomorrow, first day in the morning, at 8:00am. I will be there as well for a few hours.

Hope you are all well and healthy.

I will read some blogs now, and try to respond.

Healthy and happy days to everyone out there.

Hi Cagin,  grandma seems to be comming along. Like your doctor relative said, you seeing every day, so you not seeing the progress.  Remember it takes  time, slow and steady.  Please you got some me time in.

Take care

Yvonne

I wanted to tell you when I read your report, to not put too much emphasis on the '5 minute visit', because they go thru such lows and highs thru the day, that good nor bad, can't be discovered in 5 minutes.   I had computer problems and was having trouble posting, but I see you are finding that out for yourself in your more current blogs :)

Thanks Yvonne, Sandy...and Sandy, you are right, I can't judge by just 5 mins...it's insane...I shouldnt judge her as we accept the situation as it is, if she does improve, she will, if she can't, she can't.  I'm just thinking she had a lovely 83yr life, well in my point of view I still enjoy her touch on my face, and her looks, and her gestures in her face...bless all patients...and all caregivers and families who are fighting for them... :)
