All I Want Is Kale Greens

I could have a chili dog as well but right now the kale is on my mind. Kale Greens sound so simple right and healthy. But darn being on a blood thinner. Greens are top of the list for foods not to eat. I ate greens all the time before my strokes. I would go to the international super market and get five huge bags. I even have big pots for green. I was making them when I had the first stroke. Now I eat very little of it. Only because my doctor never told me I'm not supposed to eat them. Guess he assumed I knew but I didn't. I still eat salads and my broccoli to but very little and as a treat. I miss my green leafy vegetables.

For the chili dog I can make that as long as I don't have to much salt but the greens are heavy on my mind. The post stroke struggle in life is so hard. Especially when you want something healthy but it could hurt you. I would ask about taking the new blood thinner but those lawsuit commercials scare me. I don't need another pill hurting me again.

You can have greens as long as you are consistent. My cardiologist adjusted my dose of the warafin to align with my eating habits, the trick is to be consistent and of course moderate. Then they can dose to the dose of greens. Requires a new run of INR tests to get it all stable again.

Being consistent is the hard part for me. It's either you do the same every day or don't do it. I just stopped because it's to hard at this point. Maybe when my I get all of my other health issues together I can start eating my greens again.

Xarelto is the drug I want to take but I am to scared to take it. I'm on Warfarin and a baby aspirin. Now I'm anemic. I am so done with medications. I wish I could stop taking them all.

I take warfin and eat lots and lots of dark greens. Spinach, kale, collards, brussel sprouts, broccili, etc. The secret is to be consistent every day. Only have the same portions and probably not more than one of each in the same day. Whoever manages your INR cam easily work with you. I have been on target for several years now. just be consistent

Without eating all of my wonderful green vegetables I am already on 15mg of warfarin and take baby aspirin. I try to be consistent but it's so hard. With warfarin you either consistent or leave it alone. For now I am leaving the kale alone. My levels are finally ok but being anemic now is not helpful. I have an appointment with my primary doctor next week to talk more about that. I need to see my cardiologist to inform him and see what he says. I wish I didn't have to worry about this at all.

My sympathies.  I am on a lactose free diet and am allergic to palm oil so look at all the delicious foods everybody around me eats and wonder why I have to be the one on the restricted diet.  I hope you can work on a new eating plan soon.

Everyone is different! I dislike any kind of greens. I had a stroke 2 years ago, Hematologist thought aspirin and Plavix was not enough, consulted Neurologist and I was put on Xeralto.  I have been taking it for a year with no problems at all. I know of all of the lawsuits, and they worry me. Between medications, doctors and strokes------you can't win!  Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes so true, everyone is different and you can't win with medications, doctors and strokes!  I am so tired of medicine and the issues they bring.  One of my medications that I am on now has a lawsuit.  So issues I have now could have been caused by this drug.  I wish I could say arggg on a regular basis, but the doctors might look at me funny.  Wait who am I kidding, they do that already now!

Hmmmmmmm.........this could be my excuse not to eat greens???? My wife constantly insists I should eat heaps of greens..even kale, which she grows at home, and I loath the stuff *LOL*.

I never knew about greens and blood thinners, and will now check with my doctor. Thanks for the info, everyone.
