Countdown
I think - no, I'm pretty sure - I've lost my mind. It must be habit. All those years of hosting Thanksgiving dinners for 20 or so in my previous life. Maybe it's the memories of Thanksgiving dinners at Grandpa and Grandma's home. Whatever the reason, I've just finished two pies, the sweet potatoes for the casserole today for Thursday. Last week I made the cranberry relish. Yesterday I picked up two kinds of rolls and a loaf of bread at Great Harvest bread store. Tomorrow I'll finish cleaning the house, get the linens out, pick up the turkey, the ham, potatoes (I forgot) and peas with onions (couldn't find them at the store I did my shopping at). I'll put the turkey in brine tomorrow night. I'll do the giblets, etc. tomorrow evening so I have lots of good broth. Thursday I'll do the turkey, make the dressing and salad, cook the spuds, finish all the other goodies for the dinner...then, Mom Rogers, Bill, Trey and I will sit down to eat.......and eat.......and eat......for at least a week I think.
I once heard insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, expecting different results. I guess I'm not officially insane yet because I don't expect I'll be anything but exhausted! Just kidding - I'll be incredibly thankful that Bill is here to celebrate the day, that Mom is well, that Trey wants to be with his dad on this week-end, and that God has continued to give me strenghth for the day.
It was a real nice day Saturday so I put the lights on the tree at the corner of the apartment. I've been rearranging and getting ready to decorate inside, too. Today I put my snowbabies up - and I've even posted a picture of our fireplace. Bill is having such a good time watching me. This is the best holiday season we've had in three years - what a blessing. WHAT A BLESSING!!!
Oh - and Bill is coming down with a cold! I think it must be my imagination but I've started with the runny nose. Yup - it's time for the holidays all right.
