medications

My seizure medication has been switched to the generic brand. This led me to research side effects. I found that it as well as the brand name both have side effects like fear, mood changes, depresion, thoughts of suicide, dizziness, constipation, and loss of coordination. It seems like I hav experienced quite a few of these symptoms so I gues it is the meds that could explain for the things I was concerned about. I am thinking about asking the doc to be taken off of the seizure med because I havent had one in almost 4 years and the side effects are worse. Im also thinking about getting taken off the baclofen. It too causes dizziness, constipation, and mood changes. Taking 1030 mG of medicines with these type of side effects is not worth it. I think I have been seizure free long enough and the baclofen is not helping. I woke up at 5AM because of a bad muscle cramp from my toes to my thigh and Im always tripping and losing balance. Im constantly in pain and I know I can ask to increase the dosage but that would mean more dizziness, loss of balance, and constipation. I rather just deal with the pain like Ive been doing. In other news, I am finally at home on break. I am afraid to look at my final grades. I dont think Im ready yet. Well thats all.

Katrina,

I find with prescription drugs you are "damned if you do and damned if you don't." They can be tremendously effective in addressing whatever your health problem is, in you case the possibility of seizures, but often come with really nasty side effects.

Do have a conversation with you doctor. He may have another drug to suggest, or he may suggest tying not taking the drug for a while. If you chose to discontinue, ask him what to expect. You should ask (if you don't already know) why you are on the drug and what the changes are of seizure without the medication. Ask a lot of questions.

Good luck!

I hope you and your doctor are able to reduce your medications, I know how much better my husband felt when he was able to eliminate some. Keep in mind the doctor may not want to take you off the seizure medicine because the fact that you have not had a seizure may be an implication the meds are working. I know how important driving again some day is to you and a seizure could derail your goal in a major way. Good Luck!!

Katrina,

I agree with Kristen. You not experiencing seizures may be as the med is doing its job. Maybe the doc can try to reduce the mg bit by bit to see what the outcome would be. You don't want to cause added problems especially now that your driving permit was allowed. Don't want to go backwards.

Hi,

What seizure med are you on? I was taking Lamictal and it went generic and I started experiencing new side effects-increased tiredness and my mind was fuzzy. I went back on the brand name and I felt much better.

Also my dr wanted me to take Baclofen but after two weeks I decided the side effects weren't worth it since it wasn't working any miracles for my tone and I quit taking it.

If you are interested in stopping either med, I would discuss it with your dr first since sometimes you need to decrease the dose slowly over time.

Good luck!
