Another infection. More antibiotics.

It's been 10 days since the P.E.G was placed and still no complications. Since having the NG tube removed we have seen great improvement. She now turns her head to the left on her own more and more everyday. She is talking more and making eye contact more now too.   We had her in to see her doc. for a follow up after the PEG was placed. She's doing good, but tested positive for another bladder infection. They say this one is different then the other infections she's had. They are going to hav

P.E.G tube placement a success!!

Finally I have some good news for once. Mom's P.E.G tube placement was a success. It's been five days since it was placed with no complications at all.. We had a little scare yesterday, but I mostly panicked. ( I had pulled the residual before feeding her and pulled out some old blood from when the tube was placed. Well I freaked over it and we took to hospital to have her checked over . Turned out to be normal.)   She has made great improvement since the tube in her nose was removed as well.

One thing after another.

I swear it's been one thing after another. She gets over being sick with one thing only to get sick with something els. She just finished another round of antibiotics for the U.T.I, but now has a sever thrush infection in her mouth and throat caused by the antibiotics. So now she's on another antibiotic for that. This one I have to swab 4ml. into her mouth 4 times a day. Plus I have to spray artificial saliva in between the times I give her the antibiotic.   It popped up out of no where too.

Doing better.

Mom is doing better. No more vomiting. Almost have her back on her normal diet. Will be adding the yogurt and juice back in gradually. Hopefully the infection will clear up soon. I'm getting worried about her mouth though. Shes not letting me swab enough. They make her gag and shes afraid of vomiting again. She'll let me wet her lips and clean off her tongue, but that's about it. Thank god she has full dentures or I would be really worried.   Hopefully we can get her felling better and keep he

24 hour stomach flu.

Had to deal with some technical computer issues so my blog is a few days later than planned. Had some issues accessing my blog, but I figured it out with some help.   Last couple days been real crappy. Mom got sick and vomited everything up for two days. Been giving her nothing but gatorade and infant rice cereal for most of today. Seems to be all she can handle at the moment. Not really sure what is causing it. She's not running a fever so it's not a virus. We started her on Cipro for the inf

UTI confirmed.

Took mom to the doctors today. I was right. She has another U.T.I and a sinus infection. The UTI, however, I don't believe we got rid of in the first place. I think she has had the same one not stop since we brought her home in the first place. So hopefully this time we can get rid of it all the way. I insisted on Cipro for 10 days this time and the doctor agreed. Hopefully her immune system isn't worn out by all the antibiotics shes been given in the past two months. I'm also going to increas

Another UTI?

Well great...... Mom is again showing signs of another UTI. She's getting very moody and confused again. Started yesterday when she was watching tv. Something came up about a plane crash and the next thing I know mom is freaking out and saying her husband was involved in a plane crash and may be dead. Scarred the hell out of cause her getting upset caused her blood pressure to go sky high for about 30 minutes. Just so you know, mom doesn't have a husband. She has been divorced for about 20 years

Ready for the P.E.G tube.

Mom received a good bill of health today from her doctor. All the infections are cleared up and now we can get the N.G tube removed and the P.E.G tube inserted. The N.G tube has started to cause issues with her nose, so I can't wait to get rid of it. Makes me nerves having to feed her through the N.G. Every time she coughs I'm worried it's going down her throat or coming back up. Witch I know isn't possible with her being at a 90 degree angle when I feed her.   Mom is doing well as far as I'm

Continued from first blog.

Sorry I ended my last blog so abruptly. I had gotten into typing and forgot I was expecting the nurse, whom was coming to change mom's cath. SO I believe I left off the last one talking about the crummy care and treatment mom and the family got while she was in the hospital.   They were so NOT supportive of us taking her home it made the day she was discharged very stressful. We had mom home for two weeks when she became ill with kidney infection and had to go into the hospital for two days

My first blog.

Ok so this is my first blog. Hope I'm doing this right. This site can be a little confusing. I think I may have created two of the same blog by mistake. So ignore the second one if I did.   My name is Bethanni or Beth for short. I am a computer tech for apple computers. I recently put my career on hold to stay home and take care of my mom in law to keep her out of nursing homes. Both of us worked in nursing homes as C.N.As for several years, so put her one was something my husband and I promis
