I'm Back After My Heart Doctor Visit

I guess I'm OK according to my doctor, it took many test and five days for him to say the slow heart beat at my age and my activities was somewhat usual!! Maybe that's another way to say I couldn't find what is causing the slow heart beat but don't be too concerned right now!! My arteries were not blocked and no construction anywhere else could be seen or found and I had several kinds of test so for all that I don't feel any pains in the chest area just that the other doctor wouldn't give me the

We Just Don't Know What Tomorrow Will Bring

We all live day by day and we never know if a stroke will come along or not or perhaps we have already survived a stroke or two.... We never know one day to the next if we will even be here the following day because life is fragile as we all exist as best we can with what we are having to deal with..... I have always said a stroke is no joke and can take you out in a few seconds while it takes a lifetime to get better.....   I sure didn't think my stroke would have kept me down this long littl

50 YEARS OF SUPERBOWLS

i would be willing to say and bet many of our sports fans and members here can't remember watching 49 Superbowl games over the last 49 years of their lives before their stroke over such a long period of time???? Of course 49 years ago I was just 25 years old myself....   I do remember many of them but not everyone of them however the one that I do remember so well is the game between the Dallas Cowboys and I think the Steelers because the weather was 19 degrees I think it was and that was the

I Got Home Health Care From An Agency Again!!!

Well you all I don't get on here as, often as I once did almost daily, because I got a lady that comes in 5 days each week from 9 to 11 am helping me recover some more from what ever it was that caused me to be almost helpless... It wasn't another stroke but I can't do what I could do just months ago, IE, walking, stooping, reaching down to get something off the floor etc... Now I have to use a reacher to pick up things down low or on the floor, and even get bottles of water from the refrigerato

Trying To Find My Way Around The Site!

Well you all that know or remember me, I'm Fred King, and I just want to log in and tell you all that My operation went well and I'm into therapy both OT and regular PT with two different guys. I'm trying to learn to stand up and walk again which is the hardest thing I tried to do lately.   My knee is healed up from the cut they had to make to tie the tendons back to my controlling muscles to make my foot work. I got to learn how to use that right leg more each day so I can drive again. That's

WOW!! I'm Bad Bacteria Free!

The bad bacteria in my body is now gone. Just a stool sample to turn in this morning is all I got left to do. My doctor called me yesterday at 433 and gave me the news. All I got left to do is turn in a stool sample this morning. I feel better already! Thanks again for all your support!   My next problem to solve is being able to stand up from my seat at church, home, or any place I sit down! That has to do with my knees and the arthritis I got. Other than that I can deal with everything else

I'm BACK For A Little While!

My body has taken a beating from the many test I have undergone until my whole body is super weak and very unsteady for standing, walking, and sitting down. I feel like I been shot from a big cannon gun and didn't land yet! Overall the bad bacteria is just about gone from my body and been replaced with good bacteria for as I know about. How did all this happen to me?????? I'd have to say at this point "Only God knows." I do know now I will have colon checks every five years instead of every ten

Post Tramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

This is a disorder many soldiers suffer with and have for many years. In earlier wars it was called Shell Shock then to my knowledge from the Vietnam war to Iraq and Afghanistan it was known as PTSD. In fact the military didn't have the name PTSD when I left Vietnam in 1970-71. So it was very hard for me to get a reason I acted like I did and no one knew why. By 1982 it was known as PTSD and I submitted my claim for disability after I was confirmed as having it.   It was not until 2010 when I

A Stroke Is No Joke!

Well you guys and gals I really thank you for all your kind comments and especially the prayers you all sent my way. I thank you too for those I tried to say the right words to in getting them welcomed here on our support board when they were called Newbies as new members.   I don't know how it seems I got up from my stroke ahead of some other even after spending five months in the hospital and rehab to learn how to do things survivors are supposed to learn how to do for themselves quickly. The Time Has Come!

Today is the first day of the week my operation will be performed this Thursday on my Left eye at the VA eye clinic. This is new ground for me dealing with my eyes so I will pray and hope for the best outcome at my age. I'm told by many other people this type of operation is pretty much routine these days with all the knowledge doctors have now so that sounds great to me.   The operation is no surprise as I was told a year or two ago I would need this done they just didn't know when. So the ti

I Have Completed Nine Years Of Recovery So Far In January 2013

It has been a long, long journey to recover some of what was lost nine years ago that Thursday morning, January 15th, 2004. I realize now it's been nine years ago and I could have been gone then but I really think and believe God had other plans for my living longer. So here I am a month into another year of recovery which I surely still need and have no complaints with what I have gained back over those last few years. I may never get back to where I once was but then again I won't be the only

I've Been A Member Here Since 2005, Stroke In 2004!!

Well, now is the time and the month to celebrate my time here on site where I learned everything I know about strokes, recovery and all the meds one needs to survive. A stroke wasn't nowhere in my mind when it happened to me while home alone in the late morning. In fact I was on the computer upstairs typing some papers I needed for my business when I got to work and opened up at noon.   Well, I never made it that day or for the next five months either and I knew once I opened the doors I would

2 years Today

Well I made it to this 2 year survivor mark. With all the stats about surviving a stroke or living past a certain time brings a smile to the faces of those that go past certain time frames.   Sometimes it does seem like the next day is a struggle to survive, as I feel at the moment. The pain is so great on on my left side this morning, my wife had to help me get out of bed, give me pain meds and help me sit in my chair.   I just can't understand what my body is doing or the change I'm expe

What did you get for Christmas?

Here we are members into the new year and as far as I can read and see, no one, no, not one member has said what they got for Christmas!   I know some of us were good, everybody couldn't have been naught, somebody had to be good and nice enough to get a present?   The question is WHO?   I had expected to read where some lovely wife had gotten a Mercedes or a Lexus car! Maybe a good husband was given a dressed up Truck he been wanting for years!   I know everybody didn't just get a neck

Thought I'd give Blogs a try since the update!

Well folks I'm still in PT, today being my last session on this referral and approval by Medicare. My therapist tells me I will get another session which is about 9 appointments. That should take care of July, by then she tells me I will be walking without my cane.   So, now I'm looking forward to be dancing with my wife by my birthday! And you all thought an old man can't dance! I was light on my feet and fast too before this stroke, thus, the name, Fast Freddie! Of course, my wife is the st

The Power Of Prayer

The Tongue Can Be Your Worst Enemy!

A lady working in records department where we have to go to get a copy of any record you want for whatever reason shared this with me yesterday. I thought and thought about it, and sure enough, she was right on target. So I want to share this with all of you in a Blog setting.   The tongue can be your worst enemy:   Your words, your dreams, and your thoughts have power to create conditions in your life. What you speak about, you can bring about.   If you keep saying You can't stand your

Looking Back 50 Years Ago This Month

Well, here it is November 2008, I haven't blogged for a month, it's three in the morning, I'm awake, wife is fast asleep and I thought about 50 years ago, 14 November 1958, I joined the US Army to serve 3 years. I got shipped off from Houston, Texas to Ft Chaffee, Arkansas to get a hair cut, military clothes and boots then off to Ft Stewart, Georgia for basic training at the tender age of 17.   I will never forget my dear old mother saying "Son if you go to jail stealing gas and spare tire fr

Home Health Care

I am scheduled to see a home health care provider in the morning for assessment of my case as I think I am approved for 2 or 3 days a week. I think their services cost far less than regular therapy sessions which seem to be in the thousands for a month of visits, about 8 sessions or 2 a week.   I think they charge that much because of Medicare and your insurance pays without questions. So, I will see what home care charges for their two or three days a week. I think it's only 2 hours each day

spell check

OK, so most of you already know I am NOT computer friendly, So this blog is very short and looking for replies from those who know where the spell check happen to be hiding from my use when I make a post or reply? First of all, it no longer appears where you post the reply as it once did.   I find myself having to hit more options to get another page with the icon, checkmark, but when I hit it, it says ie spell check not detected, hit ok to download. IT NEVER HAS FOR ME.

Closed Doors

Being a 3 year survivor here and looking back at where I was at one point in my life reminds me of the bible saying "I will go and prepare a place for you." So, it reminds me of Closed Doors and those the Lord opens for us. I say to myself, "my place is not prepared yet, I'm still here for a reason."   I think back to when I was a stroke victim, lying on the floor passed out for hours before getting to a hospital. Then once there becoming a survivor. We know not all victims survive a stroke o

The blank space

I'm reading more and understanding less in some cases. Trying to tie my current life in with what I've been taught all my life and certainly what I believe.   In her book of "Useless Information," Barbara Courtland tells us that when the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre in Paris in 1911, and was missing for two years, more people went to stare at the blank space in the museum than had gone to look at the masterpiece in the 12 previous years.   Kind of like saying, "we don't miss our wa

More sights to make me feel blessed

Today I noticed a couple of survivors with different handicaps perform to the best of their abilities. A lady, elderly looking, one leg and crutches, pushing a shopping cart, crutches attached to her in such a way she never had to put her hands on them. That in itself was amazing to me. Then walked over to the potting mix and other big bags of stuff for the grass and yard, loaded 6 bags in the cart and pushed it back to the checkout register all by herself.   I've seen other females come in

A. A. A. D. D.

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D... Recently, last week, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D... Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.   I think I got it really bad. I Blogged about spring time coming a couple weeks ago, maybe just one week ago, I can't remember now and I don't have time to check. Anyway, I decided to water my grass, it's really dry here in Texas.   As I turned on the hose and standing in the driveway, I look over at my car and decided it needs a good washing. As
