Trying to do the right thing

As a side note about the kittens, we wanted to have the mommy cat spay, but she has been and still is quite scared and shy of being around us, so, if we coulda we woulda. =^.^= She's the proverbial scaredy cat. In fact, she's so nervous about being around humans, she moved her kittens last night. We found their new location, but it worried me that she had taken them to where we couldn't find them and they'd get into mischief and/or the wrong hands.

Hubby's Family Reunion

My hubby's family has an annual family reunion the 2 Saturday in July. In the past this had been held in a park by Clarksville, where Grandma Drenth had lived and then by default it remained there for 6 years following her death. This year, it's being held at Harpers Ferry, Iowa which is located on the Mississippi River. Hubby plans on going to Harpers tomorrow so he can play(fish and boat) and talk with his cousins who will be there early, too. Since I'm not into fishing at all, I won't go

Lotsa water

Well, life sure isn't dull around the Stern household. Our home has survived water coming into our basement...clean water, not muddy, Thank God!( this happened June 10) However, our vacation summer trailer(a fullsized mobile home) located on the Upper Iowa River did not survive. The river came way out of its banks(June 5) and whiped out our summer 'paradise'. There was 1-2 feet of mud throughout the trailer. Two whole sides were crushed in. Anything that might have been salvagable was loot

I hope we've done the right thing

We found adoptive parents for all 5 kittens now, I just pray all kittens will live a long and happy life. A voice in the back of my head says, what if these people intend to do harm to these precious babies? 3 of them are all black and it's reported that some evil people prey on black cats for evil things. The babies are so innocent and trusting and sweet. Well, it's in God's hands now and I'm going to stop fretting over this and let Him be God and stop trying to control my world. If I kee

I need an attitude adjustment

Well, here I am again b*tching about my neighbor lady. She continues to drive me bonkers. :head_hurts: Refer back to May 5, 2005."more grace needed" blog entry. She doesn't drive, is widowed since 1998. Never learned to speak English very well, she's a war bride from Korea(I think she's tongue tied) She seems to be trying to control my and my husbands life...having him/me drive her to doctor appointments, to her church, to a miriad of things every day. It seems she can't get her errands na

No News is Good News, I guess

It's been a long time since I last posted. Nothing of real significance to report. Life just keeps tumbling along. (Pun intended) AND that means nothing bad to report as well as nothing good to report.   The only thing bad is that my MAC is dying or is dead. I've been having issues with it since mid February. It stopped 'talking' with the printer of which it had worked with for several years. After fumbling around trying to 'fix' the problem, I've managed to screw it up big time so tha

Just to prove I'm still alive

Thought I'd enter an update on the life and times of an old broad named Janice. Still kicking...or as my hubby says..still walking and talking.....still above ground. Correction, I'm in our basement so technically, I'm below ground level. :laughbounce: With my inheritance from my dad, we've been having a lot of home improvements done. One item is we've had a 4 season room added to our bedroom. Another is we've been having our upstairs repainted and all new woodwork put in...the doors

Another late night in the ER

Yesterday, my hubby and I had gone to see my dad's lawyer for the reading of the will, after it was done and we were heading home, my hubby, Joe, had extreme pain in his abdomen. He's had this before, it's due to the surgery he had Dec of 2005 for the esophageal cancer removal. We arrived at the ER around 5:30pm and they were full so they offered for Joe to sit in a wheelchair and he declined, said pain was too intense to sit, so they offered for him to lay down on one of the waiting area's so

MY dad died on Friday, April 27, 2007

My dad was 89 and would have been 90 June 10 of this year. He had been entered into the hospital for pneumonia and had to be transfered to a larger hospital. There he had surgery to remove a pus pocket that was between his lungs and ribcage. He came through that great and was healing very nicely. He, however, developed aspiration pneumonia and didn't have the strength to cough up the mucus. They put a feeding tube in to avoid the aspiration. He didn't want it but agreed to it for our sake

I still dislike the 'skin' being used by the site

I seldom get to use my son's Gateway computer but am compelled to do so because this site is not MAC friendly. I feel like I'm having to jump through hoops to be a member here. It isn't easy for me to visit so I don't come near as often as I did in the beginning. Here I am whining again.   As to an update on me....I"m doing ok. I've been at the same level of recovery for the past 5 years it seems. My stroke was 6 years ago. I still stuggle with depression even though I've been on an ant

Official update on HUBBY and family

Surgeon said he got all the cancer..no lymph node involvement. He has to be very careful about eating. He cannot eat and drink at the same time...or else he'll have a lot of pain. He can eat about everything he'd like. Funny thing is, he can eat something one day and have no problems and eat the samet thing the next day and have lots of pain. He's the kind of guy that'll keep pushing himself to get things done, even at the expense of his health. We need to find some kind of energy bar or

Back at the ranch.....

Guess it's been a while since I've blogged..so not sure what to write... Hubby retired after 34 years at his factory job. He hadn't planned on retiring just yet, but because of the recent bout with cancer he fought and won...he is quite weak and thin. He's 6' tall and weighs 135 pounds.   A couple of hubby's friends gave a surprise retirement party for him that went off quite well... You can see pictures from this event by going to www.partypics.com use the password Janice

Back at 'it' whatever 'it' is.

Well, I'm back to blog again. I still have to come to the blog section via the back door as I call it. I clicked on my name to see my profile and then clicked on to see my blog...Kinda a round-about way to get here, but it worked for me. Jean told me the way she suggested was to click on the community links then members link....blah, blah, blah; but that didn't work for me...I'm a Mac user and the PC world is prejudiced against Macs, causing me to have to be creative in getting where I want to

where there's a will there's a way

Because I use a Mac most of the time, I have been unable to make any new blog entries. Well, because my son has a Gateway I can acess this website and enter a few 'dummy' blog draft entries that I can go back to 'edit' and then publish. Right now, I'm on my Mac.   A lot of monkeying around for something that I should be able to do from my mac, but like the title says: Where there's a will there's a way.   Previously, I had been going back to my original blog entries and 'editing' thos

Favorite Old TV shows

It's been a while since I've seen lists given...perhaps I'm just not observant enough.   My favorite old-time TV shows...not in any particular order. 1 Carol Burnett Show...Tim Conway always made laugh until I peed my pants 2 Hee Haw...I .loved the "Gloom, Dispair and Agony on Me" song 3 The man from UNCLE ...I had a crush on Ilian Curriockin...whatever his name was 4 Wild West...enjoyed the 007 high tech devices used 5 Get Smart...I like the song...and Agent 99 6 Ed Sullivan sho

Griping again

My biggest gripe now-a-days is my eyesight.. I used to be able to read relatively small print without glasses, but now, I need my reading glasses most of the time...even to read my computer screen.   This gripe is a "tie-in" to aging gracefully. I hate how I look now... old, fat and ugly. I used to be almost pretty. I can't stand to see myself in the mirror and I wonder why my husband loves me...I have nothing to offer him...can't work, ugly, cause more work for him, the list is endless. He

The clock is ticking

As I sit here, I hear the clock ticking and nothing else...pretty quiet here today. Hubby went to a local bar to watch a basketball game and connect with his pals. He needs this...he can afford intaking the calories. He sitll needs to gain back a lot of the weight he lost with the cancer/chemo/surgery he's been through. Also, he needs to 'let his hair down' so to speak...which is funny because he's balding. :giggle: I really didnt' have anything to blog about but hadn't is such a long tim

Errands

Today, Hubby and I did several errands together, we went to Hobby Lobby so he could purchase a door hook, then we went to K-Mart to stock up on TP and paper towels, then to Walgreens to get the sale price on Spam at $2.00 each, then lastly to the grocery store. It seems like we can't go to the grocery store without spending around $100. When hubby was working, these 'errands' expendatures were of little consequence, but now, with him recovering from surgery and only getting a fraction of his r

Brrr, It's cold!!!!

Well, I guess I got spoiled on all those warm days we had back in January...like in mid 40's - 60 degrees. We've had a cold snap lately. Record low of 19 below yesterday. We have a wood burning stove in our living room, but running that just makes the basement extra cold as there is no heat being sent to here. As I sit here it's 64 degrees. BRRRRR! It just make want to piddle more. Why is that? Whenever I go outside in the cold, I HAVE to piddle. Is that some sort of a natual bodily

Valentines Day Eve

Hey, if we can call the day before Christmas Eve, then Feb 13 is the eve of Valentines day.   Nothing significant to relate, just bored and wanted something to do, I do enjoy reading other's blogs and seeing how others have commented on them. Interesting insight into a person's personality!   It has been cold outside lately, when we had near spring-like temps at the end of January. Hubby has been stoking the wood burning stove most all day lately...it gets so hot I can hardly breathe.

Verrrrry Interesking...said Shultz

I needed an old blog entry I could 'edit' to make a new entry, so I went way back to the beginning of my blogs and found it very interesting...to me anyway.   I hadn't realized it's only been a year that I have been blogging.   Also, I sure had some dark attitude days back then. I hope to never have the stinkin' thinkin' overtake like it did back then.   Something I just noticed before making this entry is that at the bottom of the blog lists there is an area for some stats Like

Slipping into a routine

Guess that things are slipping into a routine around here. Hubby gets up, eats a fruitcup of peaches and cottage cheese and waits till I get up, we have scrambled eggs with cheese or poached eggs or oatmeal Then every 1 and a half hubby will eat something. He'll alternate each feeding ...one time it'll be something light then the next time something with a little more substance....like the eggs or oatmeal. This seems to work for him..occasionally he'll eat too much or too fast and get nau

Last tube was taken out today

Following my hubby's surgery he had 7 tubes in him. Today, the doctor pulled out the last one...the J-tube. Now, the road is clear...eat and put on weight. Hubby is to see the doctor in 3 months for another check up. Hubby can start driving again when he isn't on the hydromorphine anymore.

Backdoor access to blogging

This is not the prefered way of making a blog entry, because I had to delete an old entry to 'edit' it so I could post this.... where there's a will there's a way. :gleam:   Hubby is gaining strength and weight slowly...he's been home a week now and has gained 5 pounds where he had gone down to 132 pounds and he's nearly six feet tall. He weighs what I should weigh, except I'm 100 pounds overweight.

I could just scream!

Today, I had to spend time with my sister-in-law, mother-in-law and husband's nephew and his wife and 2 kids. We all went to visit my husband in the hospital.   It's not my mother-in-law that's my thorn in the flesh...it's my sister-in-law. She's very high and mighty, knows it all and is better than anybody else unless they have money. Her big thing is appearances...if something is wrong, don't let on it's bothering you...just smile and look like everything's ok. I've never been one to thr
