Bad news

My husband who is only 53 has just been diagnosed with cancer of the esophogus. He had colon cancer in 1996 and had surgery and chemo for that. I'm so numb, I feel like crying and can't.   We don't know what stage the cancer is in...will be tested on Monday, Oct 10 to find out. If any of you who read my blog are prayer warriors, I 'd appreciate your prayers for Joe, my husband.   The CT scan didn't show the lymph nodes which is good....means they aren't enlarged. God is in control

Late Night Photo Crew

We used to market Champion sweatshirts to the Greeks on campus. For the photographers we had sweatshirts made up with Late Night Photo Crew printed on the front....a spin off of Letterman's Late Night Show. The name is very descriptive of what we do...take pics late at night because college students are late night people usually. We used to have 2-3 additional photogs working for us as independent contractors...which meant we didn't take out withholding from what we paid them.....They could m

Busy week next week

Next week will be a busy week...son and hubby will be shooting dorm pics at a local college...these are pics of the residents who live on a floor or within a 'house'. We offer them an incentive of contest, this is $150 to the floor/house that has the most creative pose. We shoot a formal pose and then a creative pose. We used to call them rowdy pose..but college guys automatically think beer and naked when you say' rowdy'. The creative pose is so the sales will be up and so it's not so b

Feeling left out of it...whatever 'it' is

I feel like I'm being left out of the loop when it comes to hubby and son's running of the photo business. Hubby and son are the ones who've orchestrated the purchasing of digital cameras and the Gateway computer.   Whenever I even try to touch a camera, I get barked at and told not to touch. What am I, a 4 year old with no common sense in how to handle a camera?   Excuse me, I was a photographer for 17 years and I am 52 now, not an imbecile.   It bothers me that I seem to be excl

Dueling computers

I've had a Mac all along, now son has a Gateway and we're both hooked up to the internet. So I thought we should get the dueling banjos music and have the 'puters sing to each other ala dueling banjos style. Yes, Stan, his has mad-cow disease. Mine is fruity...Mac Apple.

Adolescent Insecurities come back to haunt

As an adolescent I had many insecurities about myself and how I looked and in general fit in to society. I never felt like I belonged or was accepted in any group I was around. I always felt like I was ugly and fat because I was told this by many. In my 20's and 30's and 40's, I tried to prove myself to myself by what I was able to accomplish by way of running a photo business on my own, more or less. Then I was broad-sided by a stroke that stole my only means of self worth. Now, I'

Why am I such a grouch?

Truly, Eeoore is who I am...gloomy and grumpy. A sour-puss who is as prickly as a thornbush. I don't know what to do to 'lighten up'. All I see is the shi##y person I've become with no way of changing. And little motivation to change.

I'll try to come up with 10. from 10-1   10) 9) 8) 7) 6)I try to be kind to people 5) I'm told I have a good sense of humor 4)I used to run my own photo business sucessfully....was a 6 figure gross. 3)I used to be fairly smart...could multi task and get a lot done 2) Well, it's hard to come up with any more than the one. I used to be pretty. 1) I have naturally cu

Walking Tacos

Hopefully, ChefDenny will aid in this. A walking Taco is so named because it's sold mainly at sporting events...like a track meet. You take a small bag of Doritos and crush in the bag some Cut the side off the bag. Add taco seasoned meat. Add all other taco condiments you like such as lettuce tomato onion sour cream cheese halopenos( however you spell it) salsa   Then eat with a fork out of the

Exhaustion

The day after the cow show, I was completely spent. No energy and my body ached all over cause I'm not used to doing all that walking. That night, Hubby, son shot a 50 yr class reunion picture and I helped. Slept in this morning and after a quick shower we went to church and then to grocery store then home for homemade walking tacos. YUM! I'm ready for a nap. Saturday afternoon, son went to Iowa City and shot pictures for the Iowa/UNI tailgaiting party before the game. If you'd like

National Dairy Cattle Congress

Every year Waterloo, my town, is host to the National Dairy Cattle Congress. It used to be a big thing for the farmers to show off their livestock. Nowadays it's just more of a city fair with rides and a pavillion with local vendors hyping their stuff. There also is a rodeo one night and some singer another night. Tonight Hubby and I are going to the Cow Show as we call it. Son and his girlfriend went last night...they said it was better than last year. It'll be a lot of walking. Don't th

Taxi service days are about over

My son regained his driver liscense so now instead of having to drive him around, I lose use of my car while he drives to where he wants to go. I'm still running the check writing service. H needs to get a parttime job..or fulltime so he can run the photo business on the weekends which is mostly how the photo business goes anyway.

Women I admire

Women I admire: My list isn't political( for the most part)...just romantically based.... 1 Nancy Reagan...for her seeming love for her husband and what she has appeared to do on his behalf. 2 Christopher Reeve's widow....same reason as Nancy Reagan 3Tina Turner..... yeah, I know she's just a singer but look what the woman has done with her life 'in spite of her man' plus she looks great! 4 The mother of the septuplets...7 kids in a litter. and she chose to keep all her embryos and no

Keeping peace

Hubby and son are running the photo business. Hubby has the photo knowledge and son has digital camera/computer knowledge. Sunday they shot 3 sorority group pictures on digital for first time using digital cameras. Hubby woke this morning in a panic atttack stewing about if the pictures were there on the memory card or some such nonsense. So, he took off driving 60 miless away to a friends place...friend has 3+ years experience with digital and our Gateway computer hadn't arrived yet...it

Nothing

Life is boringly the same every day...day in and day out. I woke up and made an appointment with doctor for my sinuses at 2pm today. Otherwise, nothing is different from any other day I've had the past 4 years. Blah, blah, blah.d Nothing interesting to cause me to smile or attempt to shift my attitude. Oh, I did have a satisfying BM this morning...how pathetic...that's all that's noteworthy about my day. What is the use of going on?

Back to 'normal'

my blog today is about getting back to normal after having to 'fast' and prepare for a colonoscopy on Friday(yesterday). My gut and bottom hurt like h#%% last night and today. Now, I feel constipated after being empty and then being able to eat and drink again. BTW, all is well in Janice's plumbing. Just a small area of diverticulitus...doc said to take fiber, duh! Well, it'll be another 10 years before I 'get' to do that again.   Contrary to what you may have expected with this blo

Gonna be a 'fun' day Friday

Fun, if you call having a colonoscopy fun. Right, Marty, you've had this done recently. The prep is not pleasant. All I've had to eat today has been saltine crackers and a couple glasses of white grape juice. Tonight I 'get' to have a Fleet phosphorous soda. Hubby says I need to stay by the throne once I take that stuff. Hubby is a pro at this, since he had colon cancer back in 1996 he has had many colonoscopies since...he checks out clean each time, thank God. I'm really looking forward to

PIcking on the Southern Folk

1) How can you tell a Southern man is married? By the tobacco stains on both sides of his pickup truck. 2) Did you hear that they've changed the drinking age to 32 in Alabama? They want to keep drinking out of the high school. 3) His widow is furrious, she can't touch a penny of her inheritance until she's 16. 4) Redneck Vasectomy   After having their 11th child, an Alabama couple decided that was enough, as they could not afford a larger bed. So the husband went to h

Celebrating 21 years

Wednesday, my son will be 21 so today, Monday, at 2pm Central Daylight Time we're celebrating his birthday. I've ordered a 1/4 sheet cake from the baker and an ice cream cake from DQ. Son is really into Spiderman so both cakes will be decorated as such. Also, I purchased at Walmart a Spiderman costume for him to wear. He tried it on last night and he acted like I'd given him a new car hopping around like a monkey. Silly boy! He's his dad's son... sometimes I claim him as my son, but

A girl with a reputation

In high school, I was all prim and proper, didn't date. In college, I rebelled and went wild with men and was way too loose. After college, having not received my MRS degree, I tapered off the wildness and sulked for having 'missed the boat' so to speak. Finally met my husband when 30, he wass 31, we married during that 3 week period when we were both 31. There has never been another man in my life since marrying my husband, other than my dad and my son.(they are technically men, thoug

Today, I had the grey shoved back in

I had a hair appointment to cover the grey roots and trim it to a decent shape again...Same effect as having the grey shoved back in.   I think of the dolls that had the hair you could trim and then turn a knob to bring the hair back to a tollerable length.

Late night at the ER

Yesterday, my husband and son ordered a Gateway computer and purchased a 2nd digital camera. Last night hubby developed a migrane and son drove him to ER where the doc there gave him a shot in his cheek where he sits. It worked. He was sleeping in the ER exam room within 20 minutes and I had arrived by that time and took hubby home to a good night's rest and this morning he woke worrying about the money expendature and this will require him to spend his weekends helping son build up business
