• A  blog is a personal journal of your daily life as a stroke survivor or stroke caregiver.  Surprisingly, countless members have called it therapeautic to write down their thoughts and to vent their frustrations.  You can make it private, just for your eyes or public and share your personal thoughts with your friends.  Why not try it, create your blog and start writing and see if it helps you.

    Living on angel time.

    By swilkinson

I went to see the neurosurgeon on Tuesday. I was interviewed by a young Asian associate doctor and sent for a 3D MRI and angiogram, a brand new way of showing  the blood supply within the brain. The results were given to me by the associate and then I saw the specialist. It appears the aneurysm is larger and deeper than previously thought but at my age they are not going to operate as it would mean a full brain surgery. Coiling, one method of dealing with an aneurysm, is not an option. I think I

What will we do today?

My English visitors have gone to Sydney for a few days and will fly back to England on Friday. I really enjoyed the visit but am quite tired and I think glad for the moment of the peace and quiet. That will pass as I am soon bored and looking around for something else to do. One thing I will miss is hearing someone say: "What will we do today?" it is the "we" I miss, someone else being there to want to share an activity. I didn't realise how much I missed that. i know I miss Ray but I also

An overdue THANK YOU

THANK YOU for being here my friends. Strokeboard has made such a measurable difference in my life and i want to thank each and everyone of you. I'd be out on planet Jupiter without you. Well meaning family, friends, therapists are all reassuring, but it is you, fellow survivors, that i come to when I cry and feel scared and lost. You are my soulmates that understand and stand with me through it all, you are the wind under my wings. Much love to all of you.

Broken Angels

When I was a young girl I had the weekly task of dusting bookcases, end tables, and other furniture odds and ends. Every Saturday morning my siblings and I would do our assigned chores before we were allowed to go off to our free time activity. I was the youngest of five kids so I somehow seemed to luck out and always get the minimal side of chore assignments. Given that I was a very small girl it seems logical to me why I was assigned the things I was assigned. My siblings didn’t necessarily ag

Minor memory victory

I don't have a computer at home I have an iPad and my Android phone well I always have my flash drive with me to save anything that I write and I was there 4 times this week and I remember to take the flash drive with me all four times I usually forget it at least once a week so I was really happy that I remembered all four times. This to normal definitely takes some getting used to figuring out what you need to do to not make those silly mistakes be blessed and be a blessing. Jay

Keeping Caregiver Brain Active, Tatting

I know that the stroke people can not really get into any of the crafts I talk about, but I'm hoping that it will give some ideas to caregivers who find themselves at home more, and may need something of their own to do.   So Aug 2015, I begun to have some time to actually DO something and began to crochet again, and think about all my crafts I hadn't really had time for since Feb 2012. Then this Dec 2015, I decided to get into tatting. Since I had to learn it from scratch, it was something th

Long Time No Blog

Hi all, haven't reported in since October, so thought I'd let you all know we are doing fine, incase you were wondering! We did not get sick this winter - WOOT! The weather has been so mild that Bob (who gets cold easily) has had quite a few screened in porch days already!   It is tax season, so I'm busting my head into the wall trying to find what happened to my hadicapped receipts for Jan-Aug - why do I always lose them? I know that I start putting them in an envelope right off

Once again amazed by nature

Waiting for the boss this morning I heard a nearby chirping of a bird I looked around and I saw the most beautiful cardinal the brightest red shiniest feathers I've ever seen. I joke with a friend of mine on the bus that that bird must be eating right and no worms for him. Once again it was very humbling to see the work of God and how beautiful that bird was I am so blessed it amazes me. Be blessed and be a blessing. Jay

Making a Collage

I have been cutting out magazine pictures & gluesticking them onto black posterboard. That should keep me busy. I like just cutting out what catches me: words,Colors, items, faces. I made one once and framed it. It was things I liked in mags in one color. Well this is a huge one filled with things that express me my life. It is a spiritual journey, and a good cutting exercise. I sit by the window enjoying the cats, butterflies, flowers, green grass, sunshine. There is norovirus and C Diff here so

A check list please

About day three following my husband’s admittance into the Intensive Care Unit I was beyond exhausted. I hadn’t slept, eaten, or really come to terms with what had happened. Ideally, I expected him to just wake up, ask for something to eat and say, “Let’s go home.” My husband had every monitor possible attached to him. Not to mention the revolving door of technicians, nurses, therapist, and doctors coming into his room nonstop. With every person that entered the room I ask question after que

I have been having a different kind of holiday as I home host one of the people who home hosts me in England, she and I are third cousins and she is with a cousin from her mother's side of the family. They are here for an extended holiday, five weeks in all and they will be going home in the middle of this month.
