Abracadabra, Alakazam! Lady re-appears

Hello - If you've noticed that I haven't been around, or even if you haven't, apologies for my unexpected "vacation" I had a second small stroke(TIA) on July 19, 2006, whivh necessitated a trip to first our local county hospital, then a transfer to the University of Cincinnati hospital, where I've been hanging out by the pool with several margaritas - LOL and if you believe that one, I've got a piece o'real estate for ya to lookeesee at. Getting steamboats off of sandbars

"You can have anything you want -- if you want it badly enough. You can be anything you want to be, do anything you set out to accomplish if you hold to that desire with singleness of purpose." ~ Abraham Lincoln   Abraham Lincoln On this day in 1849, at the age of 40, Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) applied for U.S. Patent No. 6469, which raised steamboats off sandbars. He is the only U.S. President to obtain a patent, a credit to his determination and ingenuity

So am eating cereal and halfway listening to the news.   My brother who is in the army called yesterday and took some time to really explain what is happening in the mideast and what to watch out for in the new

PROGRESS!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday! This was a great weekend for me - ,ajor progress in terms of communicating with my dear husband fin-depth for the first time since the stroke. He listened while everything poured out and didn't try to fix it or calm me down - and I was really mad! It has helped me to calm down quite a bit though - not getting as frustrated at every little thing. We also went and did something fun - like we used to before the stroke - we went to a movie: "Pirates

Another hit leftover from the car crash...

It's a rainy day today - matches my mood very well. It's actually two more hits - one,my active daughter will have t wear that stupid corset brace for the chipped bones in her back for another month and then will start PT for the next few months - which means no cross-country this year - she is majorly disappointed and bummed out. I feel very bad for her. Two, Also found out that the passenger in the car that I hit died a few days ago. He was in bad health before the crash and didn't recov

A quick update

I was reading through my previous entries and realized I hadn't followed up on a few things that have happened - the cookie thing is resolved, my DH made good on the leftover amount, we are still attempting to sell the rest of the cookies and hopefully he'll get reimbursed at least some of the money. He's not worried about it he says, it's just nice not to have it hangng over everyone's heads. Starting to think about Girl Scouts for this upcoming year...I'm going to need a lot of help but I th

A Happy Forth to all wherever you are!

A good Monday to you Had a busy day with OT, ST, and PT today. ST was a few eval tests - showing problems in comprehension and in logic (math skills are gone). Short term memery lacks as well - Going for full scale neuropsych testing later this monthto fully assess how bad and where deficits are....Doc says he is confused because the part of the brain where my stroke struck shouldn't have affected my number skills - I'd like to know what happened with my checkbook then! My hubby couldn't be

A little relief

Saw Doc yesterday - he changed meds around a little - doubled the effexor and switched me from Ambien at night to Clonipin to help the muscles relax . I actually slept pretty good and leg muscles didn' cramp up last night - fingers are still stiff but I imagine that will improve over the next couple of days....we'll see. Doc signed my disability papers for my educational loans but is going to send me for some neuropsych tests so they can see if and what I've lost...Disability just called and t

Cookies anyone?

You are right Sue -I do feel better today with my daughter home - and had a preety good conversation wih hubby last night. He got really angry about something and didn't want to talk about it - I poked and prodded a bit to get him to tell me (it was something really silly - even he said that) which led to him actually telling me what has been bothering everybody around me - at least those who were involved with me and my girl scout troop and our cookie sale. My stroke occurred right in the

stuck in BFE

Having a catchup day today - no doing much of anything - although did take care of my plants today, removing all the dead leaves and such....keep forgetting to water them. My girlie comes back from her dad's today :Clap-Hands: Getting used to being by myself with tonl the dog to talk to. Everybody has kinda moved on and no one calls or drops by anymore..... I'm guessing that is the reason that many of us turn to online support? Dealing with this is exhausting for me so it must be a real dra

Busy, busy, busy!

And here I thought life was slow and that I had nothing to do......I haven't been home except to sleep for four days  Was kinda kidnapped by some really good friends on Sunday - they took me to church with them - very nice people, not the faith I grew up with, but was a really good service - a bit overwhelming to be around all those people but they were very kind and everyone knew I had a stroke (I was on their prayer list) so they didn't react funny to my emotional roller coaster . First of many

Okay - here goes... one handed typing easier than writing on paper - easier to share here than to talk in person ( I don't get so upset with not as many up and downs) Today has been a litle slow - at home alone again, doing research and reading posts here. Husband Daniel is at work - he works as a security guard for a casino but is trying to ursue his dream of becoming a police officer here in our small town..He has passed the first two phases of the employment process with the third one
