Rehab Reunion

Today was a special day. This was the day of the Rehab Reunion. This was my 3rd time. I had been told about it when a patient as a hot dog and hamburger gathering in the parking lot, but when the invitation arrived, it was being held in a convention center with a catered meal. Since this was just a few months after I had been to the hospital, most of my therapists were there. I had done so well since I had been there, that I made the decision that I would attend walking on mt own. And I did.

Peace and quiet! Ah so nice

It's difficult for me to get up and out early. Having this second stroke and medication have made me worse than I was. I just can't seem to "get the lead out" before noon. Yesterday though was a special day. I had to meet with the gal who would be arranging for all the subcontractors to prepare my lot for my manufactured home. She even gets the permits. I'm sure the cocts will be passed on from the dealership but you need someone who knows the ropes. All I have to do is call the electric compan

I'm Sitting Here In Shock!

It's roughly 12:30 in the am and I have to be about 25 miles from here in 8 hours. Long time but I desparately need sleep. I don't know if I will be able to sleep. My "dream" of again having a home is getting closer. Tomorrow I meet 2 women who will be getting subcontractors to clear the land, put in well, septic system, culverts etc. So, in printing some things for them, I'd thought I'd check the recent sales. What I saw was that a lot across the street and owned by the same man I bought my pr

Fate

Yes, a strange topic, but one I've spent much time thinking about. Ever wonder about the brain and having a stroke? Just what gets us to where we are? Our own set of "W's". Why - well this in most cases is obvious. When, well this can be explained in many instances but the "w" that has me thinking is WHERE. Not the "Where" in location such as home, work, car, but "where" in location of the brain. "What" decides where in the brain you have the stroke? Ever think of that? Why do some have brainste

Idiosyncrasies

Idiosyncrasies -1 a : a peculiarity of constitution or temperament : an individualizing characteristic or quality b : individual hypersensitiveness (as to a drug or food) This should be my middle name! I already have the middle name of Irene so no need to change my monogram OK, simply put - I am a nut case! Here are some-   1) I will eat broiled fish only if it id msde into a (cold) salad. 2) I will eat carrots raw, but never cooked unless there are a few in stew. Maybe I'll eat them; p

The interview

Had a job interview today, Didn't realize there would be a face to face interview. I never did well even before the stroke and now - well, you can imagine "a drunk" looking for a job. So, why I said I'd be there, I'll never know,---but decided that it would be good experience seeing if I could get away with it. I won't go into details but had decided before that this wasn't really the job for me. For starters- 6am to 2pm. Know any strokers who can climb out of bed quick like a bunny? well, cer

New month means changes

It's a new month and I just couldn't let it pass. I don't have to be a fortune teller to mention changes that are definites and some that are not, October, the time changes. Personally, this will be a problem because my bed partner cannot change her time clock and now she will start getting me up earlier. (Of course it's a dog) Hurricanes - they are possible for 2 more months but they are now on the downward side. I hope Mother Nature is pooped out from blowing. The leaves - haven't been up nort

The computer - the best therapy for we who have ha

I was surprised last night that on chat a few members had said how lonely they were when their husband/care-giver had to go to work during the day. Give me a computer and I'm never alone. I found that the computer has been an excellent aid for those of us who have been blessed with a stroke (how's that for a positive way to put it?) To begin with hand eye coordination must be helped. Id you have a bad right hand, then using the mouse will give it exercise and in general, typing any way that you

Acupuncture?

I know some of you go to acupunture. Today I went to the program at the Noetic Society (Noetic Science "At the forefront of research and education in consciousness and human potential co founded by Astronaut Edgar Mitchell)I must admit the people who go to these meetings are "unusual". Inquirung minds wanted to know - I wasn't impressed. It seemed to be a way to find something which really can't be found. There is a man in the neighborhood. Because he is stubborn, when he had his stroke, because

Do you crumble, tear or nothing?

This is a topic. It could be called "An inquiring miind wants to know" When you have a piece of paper, an envelope or whatever to throw out, do you just throw it in the round file, crumble it up or tear (or shred) it?   My sister and I are both children of the same mother and father and yet entirely different. Except for the fact that at the same age we both had ear surgery, andthat was on different ears but even blood type- she's common positive and I'm rarer negative. I put the toilet pa

The Emergency Room

I spent 4 hours in the ER yesterday - No, not as the patient, but as the driver. The patient was my sister. It's a good thing she wasn't the one who had the stroke. She has no patience! Saturday evening she noticed that the drape had come off of the rod. So she tries to stand on a chair and getting up on it, steps on a rung and breaks the rung. Before the evening was over, she had the whole corner of the room torn apart. She figured one of the cats must have tried to crawl up the drape and his w

Missing weekend chat

Before I "get into trouble" as I have been lately let me state to begin with - it can't be helped, I know the reason why, and understand, but I just want to "crab" about it so I can feel better.   That having been said, and I think very clearly, I will continue.   I am very fond of chat but because I get home so late evenings, and am not here at the right time during afternoon weekday chats, I want to say, I miss chat on weekends. I have read suggestions to see who is online, send that

Ophelia

Things have been a little quiet here, other than the "house business" and work. For the next 2 weeks I'll be having a dinner a week courtesy of mystery shopping. Yum, yum.   The big thing has been Tropical Storm/Hurricane Ophelia. Actually when she did approach, she changed (like a woman) from a tropical storm into a hurricane and back. The stores weren't selling as many flashlights, batteries and generators as they did last year- just a little more than normal. Probably because everyone alr

House shopping and traveling.

I've been in Florida for roughly 45 years - but mostly in South Florida. I am very comfortable there. In the last 2 weeks, I've gone to places in the wilderness. It amazes me how much undeveloped land there really is. Of course this is in direct contrast to the southern part of the state. Last week, it was Bartow; this week a place called Fruitland Park. I didn't want to take the interstate (I-4) - the one that gets you to "the mouse and his friends" and so took a map and planned my trip avoidin

WARNING

This is a warning! If you are planning a trip to Florida, DON'T go to Bartow! It's not worth the trip, especially if you are approaching from the east.   I had to go to see about house plans (manufactured/modular) The local people know only what they want to tell you, so it really paid to go to the top - the manufacturer of said homes. Five hours round trip, that awful trip on Interstate 4 which surrounds Orlando, Home of "the mouse" (Disney World, with Epcot and all the other theme places t

Have people gone crazy?

Have people gone crazy? In February, I bought a rural piece of property, no plumbing, no water, no driveways. no culverts, dirt road (but hard packed) and plenty of trees and vegetation. I paid heavily considering the man who had prchased it previously paid a tenth or maybe a fifth, He had bought several properties at the same time and price paid was for all,   Today I found out that the lot next to mine, same size, same conditions as far as I know, sold in July for $15,000.00 more dolllars.

Burp! Burp!

As many of you know, I am a field merchandiser. I supplement this work doing audits, demos and mystery shopping. Today, I did the latter.   With medical and drug bills as they are, going out to eat, even and "Chez Burger" (BK) or "Mickey D's" (that other place) doesn't give us much chance of eating out. Food at those places isn't cheap anymore either. So my assignment for today was a delight. I had to eat lunch at Picadilly Cafeteria and I could spend $20.00 (with or without a friend) There w

City planners - Duh!

Did you ever think how the street you live on got it's name? Probably not. You know how infamous I am for getting lost. I should stay out of Palm Coast, Fl, It's a new section- maybe 5 to 10 years old and they planned it to be ultra nice. You don't see the Walmart, Home Depot etc- well not unless you look through the trees and a block away. The main drag goes east and west- divided. So if you have to be on the other side you have to go through a cut through street. Some are short distances but o

Certifiable

I think I may be pushing my poor damaged brain to the limit. I've so much on my plate- all at once. My jobs are not fitting together as those I had pre this stroke. I used to be able to decide a direction and do several jobs in one location- such as north of my home. Now I no longer can; there isn't the flexibility I used to have. On any given day I must go north and south. Not too good with gas the price it is.   Working on getting money to fund my home. It's like getting blood from a stone.

I didn't think it could happen

It's been almost 2 years since I've had an attack of nausea. One of the gifts from my stroke was I'd barf if you looked at me, pushed me too fast in a wheelchair or if I'd have to make turns. They had to be LARGE. The last time was when I rushed during a out-patient session. Thank goodness for some bushes near the parking lot. From then on, I carried a towel in the car and I haven't used it -except to wipe sand off my feet. Sometimes the ocean looks so good and I will "wet my feet".   Today I

I did it again; I'll never learn

Many years ago I used to "lose my car" in a shopping center parking lot. No not the Walmarts, Targets or Home Depots but those regional shopping centers with 4 or more large department stores. There was a company whose buildings have been bought by Dillards. The buildings are squares- three sides exactly the same with the fourth opening on the mall side. You know the type?   Well, when I was working I would be brain dead. My mind was a million miles away. Losing the car was common place and I

A quandry

I'm up at this ungodly hour because I've got a problem. I've got a job I hate. The people where I work have been very nice, but the "bosses" and the company impossible. The pay isn't great, but it is income. It just couldn't have come at a worse time. Don't know if I should tell them what to do with it or chance a very uncomfortable few hours and be "let go". I got a very rushed 1 sentence email (words left out, poor English). Call me ASAP about working together Thursday or Friday. Why? I did no

Blog, "Schmog"

Blog, "schmog" I'm going to sleep! I was falling asleep while waiting to take a pill at 11:30, then got a second wind; but you know the dog has more brains than I. She's stretched out on my pillows comfortably sleeping and I'm tired and jealous so here goes. It's gonna feel so good!

Big things happening!

Haven't blogged in a while. Isn't that I haven't been thinking of things - just haven't had time.   As always happens with me, things happen in bunches. In the last 3 days, I have gotten 2 new (additional) jobs. Hopefully, they will be better than some that I have now. I especially hate one that I do but it is weekly and the company pays taxes etc. It is not an independent contractor job where the company pays nothing - no taxes, drive time etc. They must be paid by me.   The other thing o
