Snow Day today!!

WE live in an area where snow is precious and very rare. It snowed maybe little less than an inch, and schools are closed!!   I am home today with my kiddo. I thought I would sleep in, but my kid brain kicked in, and got excited about the snow. My daughter and I went walking in the back yard for a short time. I tried to catch a good picture to send on our greeting cards. WE will see about that one when I get them developed.   WE have already made our first batch of chocolate chip

'Yesterday was just another manic Monday"

Monday we slept late, My kiddo went to school with me pushing her out of the door in practically her PJ's.   (It's hard for a survivor and sleepy 5 yr. old to rush!)   (I'm wiping my brow) WE made it though before she was counted tardy!!   Ugh, I hate Monday's. Monday is my busy day. 11:30 Tutor at kiddo's school. After school, we are off to Daisy Scouts. I shuffle one of Madeline's friends with us to Daisy's so, I am tired mentally from watching someone else's kiddo with mine.

Left hand/ foot is a Popscicle

I don't care too much for the 40* weather. I walk out side for one second and my affected foot and hand gets ice cold. I cannot get warm after I get cold until I take a scorching bath. I don't know how Asha lives in the freezer up there.   Our mild winters about freeze me, pre stroke I loved cold weather, now I despise it. I have been walking around with a glove only on my left hand around the house.   My hubby jokes and says that that style went away after the Thriller album. To

Freecycle-my new hobby

I don't know if there are other freecycle people out there, but my new hobby is freecycling-giving used items away to a community who may need them. My stroke left me with lots of clothes, shoes and stufff I no longer needed. I was house bound, and wanted to get rid of my stuff, and it feels good to give to someone who may need your 'clutter'. Today, I posted some of my kiddo's out grown clothes. Gosh it gets addictive. You can post a wanted post or offer post. Every state, and town usuall

Sobering Tornado damage

Some of my extended family fell victim to the Tornadoes that raced through the state Sunday night. My hubby's grandfathers family-roofs blown off, trees down, huge trees snapped in half. He had a bull that he had up in a barn, the barn blew away, but the bull is still staying in the same place were the barn used to be-I feel so sorry for the bull.   Thankgoodnesss, everyone was in the storm cellar. Nobody had a scratch!!   There's nothing a stroke survivor can do to help physically, bu

My knock off KateSpade purse

I am not into fashion, but my SIL is in the big NYC-so I asked her to pick me up a fake Kate Spade Bag. She found one, and I am so exctited. I love my purses now, since I can't have my shoes anymore.Just had to share- I don't even know the color, but I am excited. -Amy

My grocery list

Today was grocery shopping, and to my surprise my kiddo (5 yr old) had drawn a naked person next to the list, and labeled body parts-I t looks like she drew a female. I rewrote the list, so I didn't have to look like a weirdo pushing a shopping cart around with homedrawing nudity on it. The female anatomy is much more detailed then the arms, toes or face. I showed my hubby and he laughed and laughed!! I will have to put this one up in a place to save and show her when she gets older. -Amy

Awkward situation...

I know everyone gets into an awkward situation everynow and then, but, I did accidently in my own house!   Here's the situation. I met a mom in my kiddo's classroom, who kindly asks if I will take her kiddo to daisy scouts with my kiddo. Not a problem......   I invited her over today to show here my home, and where her kiddo would be staying until she gets off of work. Got her verbal permission for her to jump on our trampoline ,any allergies, etc.   WEll, here is the kicker, the

Rehabilitating after the Thanksgiving storm

I am soo glad to be home, I must admit I needed the time away from home, since I am here 24/7 'retired'. But I could really feel the stroke take hold when traveling, upstairs, down stairs. I bent over once to put an item in my suitcase and I slowly kept going down, until I hit the floor.   TG nobody knew, b/c it woulds of embarrassed me, I think the mental fatigue played on my physical fatigue too.   I spent the night at my little brothers house, they have no children, and of cours

My new Christmas dishes

I bought some new Christmas dishes today at Walgreens, nothing fancy, inexpensive fun seasonal dishes. The picture on all the plates is 2 snowmen. That means I can use them longer than my old Christmas tree dishes. And I can bless someone else with my old Christmas dishes! I have them in the dishwasher now getting shiny and clean to use tonight. Something so simple can really excite me! I better go play dolls with my kiddo! -Amy

My favorite Thanksgiving meal is over..

My inlaws, Wonderful Thanksgiving meal is over. It was so very good. I hated turkey until 1999 when I had their Turkey for the first time. For some reason my families always had a gross gamey taste to it!   My least favorite Holidaymeal, has turned into my favorite. It's kinds crazy. So the newness hasn't worn off.   Today after church, hubby and I went to inlaws to raid their fridge, to eat good leftovers.   They weren't home, so my hubby used his key, and we keyed inside, and m

Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.

No, I have my day right, tomorrow at noon, I go to my inlaws, down the road, to their Thanks giving dinner. I am soo excited. They have the best food of anyone's holiday meals. *Sorry Mom.   It is so nice, to be in the position to just 'show-up' for the meal. I offered to bring/help, but it is all taken care of.   I know, one day, it will be my responsibility to gather and share thanks with my family.   As of now, I enjoy the carefreeness of showing up with a hungry belly. Hard therapy session today

I had a hard OT therapy session today. My OT always does a little gait therapy with me to better help my affected arm hang more natural.   WEll I have heard, post stroke that I don't shift my weightcorrectly over my left hip, (over my knee correctly.) I know the suggestions are good, but hell, I am glad to freakin walk, screwed up or not as it looks. I don't care if my gait is not run-way quality or not. She left me with a list to #7 of excersizes to be working on. I think I may actua

Mommy's worries..

I don't know why, but I am worried about my baby going on a feild trip today. I didn't sign up to go with her , b/c she requested that she go, on one w/out Mommy. They will be traveling in bus, about 60 miles today, roundtrip.   And it doesn't help any, that there is a threat for severe weather today. Good 'ol Tornadoes!   When I was taking her to school, she told me that she wished I was going on her feild trip. I kindly reminded her, that it was her decision, for me not to go.

Hives drama update:

WEll.. I held off last night not going to ER and went to see my PCP this afternoon. I 'm going to be taking Prednisone for 8 or so days with Zytec.   I am a little scared that I may have developed an allregy to my nerve pill, b/c my allergic reaction was just after I had taken it.   I guess we'll see tonight after I take today's dose. I sure hope not.   Besides the allergy drama, tonight hubby and I are going to see the movie JarHead. WE both want to see it, although there are 2 othe

My drama 2 night....Hives..

Yep, I am covered head to toe with pretty itchy red/white spots... Hives, never had'em before, but they are not fun let me tell ya. I am avoiding the ER, b/c I don't want to spend my night there. And really think the benadryll and cream will help tie me over until tom. if I need to see my PCP.   I called friends who get hives frequently and got some good nonmedical preofessional advice. If I really thought I needed a doc, I wouldn't hesistate. My rump, tighs, elbows and behind my knees

Nuerologist appt.

WEll 2yrs post stroke, my Nuerologist dismissed me as a patient, until I need him for something. It was a good feeling being released from a doctor. I quit my Physiatrist(sp), before he coiuld release me.   Got my Flu shot today at Health Clinic. Couldn't feel it, b/c they got me in my left arm.   My beloved sick nephews gave me a cold, that I can't shake, and has kicked my bottom to the curb. All I want to do is sleep/cry. I guess it could be worse. At least no fever. My DD is get

We've got a Peep-and Tom..

My hubby found out yesterday(by a neighbor), that we have a Peep -and Tom on our street, who has been prowling around at night looking in windows. And the same neighbors had a man expose himself to her.!   I need to go get the info from the source. It does kinda freak me out a little. No more leaving windows open at night when hubby is gone! Yucky..I don't feel safe anymore, and we live in a low crime area. -Amy

Good Visit today with my parents.

My brain is tired, but I just got back from a day trip to see my parents. I drove down there and my hubby drove back. 100 mile one way.   It went well except for the fact the cousins were acting crazy and making a huge mess with the toys. I am the 'pick-up'police, b/c My brother doesn't think to have his kids pick up after them, before they leave, and my poor Mom spends hours picking up after the kids leave. I gathered the oldest ones together and had them 'pick up their mess'. I hope it

I am killing my ivy plants

Yes, I am going to kill my 2 Ivy plants that I planted in my front yard.   They were sweet innocent $.50 baby Ivy plants, when I first adopted them, but they had grown into monsters(out of control). No matter how hard I tried to cut them back, they grew back stronger and thicker before.   It even had started to try to climb inside our roof. They looked good before they took off growing.   My Granny warned me that one day, I would be digging the poor souls up, and that they co

Halloween-Devil's Holiday???

This morning, on our walk to school, I asked one of my Daughter's friends, if she was going trick-or-treating tonight. She looked at me with big eyes and said,"No, DEVIL!"     I had forgotten all about some beliefs on Halloween. I had some cousins growing up who were taught the same. How did the Halloween tradition turn into a taboo subject? Just curious. -Amy

My new shoes..

What's the big deal? WEll, yesterday my hubby bought me a new pair of shoes to wear.   They are my first pair of "Non-sneaker" shoes post stroke. I have donated all my old shoes to a friend in need.   I feel halfway normal again, wearing a solid color shoe. They have a safe solid flat sole, nothing fancy, but fancy to me, they are easy slip on shoes. Nothing expensive, some Wal-Mart finds.. I love them, and they are getting easier to walk in. I am going slow and easy. Nothing big

Stupid brain damage!

I am so mad at my brain right now. Last night, I brought everything to record with my video camera, my daughter's performance, and put it on pause, while my hubby handed me, the camera, and then I forgot to unpause it!   I sat down, last night to show my daughter how it looked from where I was sitting, and saw about 1 minute of it...then snow came on.   My husband and I swapped being the filming parent, and I paused the recording, when we switched hands, I started holding the video came

Tonight's excitement

Tonight, we have some "out of the ordinary excitement." Our daughter attended a cheerleading camp, and will be performing at half time tonight, at the jr.high game. It will be nippy outside, but I have planned a warm outfit for her. Bought new gloves and all.   She is only 5, so it will be cute watching the her group perform to the song "I can shake it like this.....you can shake it like that.."   Which reminds me, I need to put the video camera on the charger. Thanks for reminding me

Hijacking Asha's blog-winter heating bill

I am taking part of ASha's blog, and talking about it too. I have in the past kept our house toasty oven warm*78.   The estimated gas prices have me freaked out, and I think I will turn the heat set at *70 and leave it there, just put on more clothes if needed. We live in a small house, so it used to be affordable to keep it the temperaturewhat we wanted. Our electricity for the summer has been higher, and now the winter hype of natural gas has me biting my nails.(I'm thinking about gettin
